Supporting Church Leaders

How local Christian communities operate, both for the well being of their constituent members and for the benefit of the wider community, is a vital contemporary concern. Though the spiritual needs of society have rarely been more obvious, declining Church attendance and levels of involvement raise questions of relevance and effectiveness. Significant questions are, therefore, being asked about the way in which these communities have been traditionally organised. The issues raised are partly about structures, but they also concern the processes of engagement and the delineation of roles and responsibilities.

For those in positions of leadership help is often required both in examining the issues they face, engaging others in constructive dialogue and creating a workable vision for the future. In each of these areas you can look for our support.

Our Perspective

The development of a local Church requires a raft of differing responses, depending on the context and local circumstance. However, our experience suggests that Christian communities preparing for the future display certain characteristics. These include:

*

A ‘listening culture’ to what is happening both within the Churches and in wider society.

*

A new enthusiasm for interiority and the deepening of personal spirituality.

* The developing of meaningful conversation about life and faith.

* An openness to learn from the perspectives and experience of others.

* A willingness to examine previous assumptions and modify present ways of operating and behaving.

* The engagement of as wide a constituency as possible in finding a way forward.
