The development of a local Church requires a raft of differing responses, depending on the context and local circumstance. However, our experience suggests that Christian communities preparing for the future display certain characteristics. These include:
- A ‘listening culture’ to what is happening both within the Churches and in wider society.
- A new enthusiasm for interiority and the deepening of personal spirituality.
- The developing of meaningful conversation about life and faith.
- An openness to learn from the perspectives and experience of others.
- A willingness to examine previous assumptions and modify present ways of operating and behaving.
- The engagement of as wide a constituency as possible in finding a way forward.
